This is a new feature where we will post local music news from members in our chapter. We will also draw upon this information to be sent to NSAI for inclusion in their News-Wire.

RYAN HYDRO:
NSAI played one of Ryan's songs at the June play for publisher luncheon and two publishers took a copy of his song. Ryan also just received Honorable Mention in the Country category of the Billboard World Songwriting Contest for two of his songs; the letter says that means both songs were in the top 500 submissions. JIM CAROLAN:
SONY PICTURES announced in May that they had acquired the rights to distribute the HBO Film SUGAR to Movie Theaters throughout North America, South America and Latin America! Jim Carolan’s song “ROCK IT IN” is featured in this baseball movie that has been receiving rave reviews! Look for it in a theater near you this summer. Then on HBO & Cinemax this Fall/Winter! JIM HAS A SINGLE IN CANADA! - “GOOD RIDDANCE” was released as the first single from Rebekka Paige’s soon to be released CD! The 17 year old sensation released the single to all the Country Radio Station in Canada in Mid-May and she has been receiving great radio support already! JIM FEMINO:
Local EPA-NSAI Pro member, Jim Femino from Royersford, PA, is experiencing "emotional overload" as his song, "Just Got Started Loving You" reached the #1 spot on the country radio airplay charts this week. It had a long steady climb on the charts on the way to the top. Jim co-wrote the song with James Otto and D. Vincent Williams. Jim reminds us all to "enjoy the journey".
CRAIG BICKHARDT :
Craig was awarded first place for his song Sugarcane Street by the IAMA, International Acoustic Music Awards. Craig is a local pro-writer who supports NSAI and our chapter. PAUL COLOMBO :
Paul Colombo has been chosen by "Just Jazz Guitar Magazine" to feature him playing a solo guitar version of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" on its JJG jazzplayer (a streaming audio player of various jazz guitarists).
SHERRI MULLEN:
Eastern PA Regional Workshop Coordinator Sherri Mullen swept the 2007 Central Pennsylvania Music Awards this year by winning in both categories that she was nominated for! Sherri won BEST ACOUSTIC ACT (for her acoustic duo project) and BEST CD ("Fearless"). Her new CD "Fearless" was released in April 2007, and the title track was co-written by Sherri, former EPA-NSAI Coordinator Jim Carolan, and two other EPA-NSAI regional writers...Kris Ballarini, and Hugh Gallagher! Sherri also co-wrote 3 songs with her son Shane Mullen (a proud Mommy moment) and the other 6 tunes she wrote by herself. She attributes much of her growth as a songwriter to her involvement with Nashville Songwriters Association International. For more information on Sherri, go to her website at www.SherriMullen.com .
STEVE WALKER:
Steve Walker is a new member of EPA-NSAI. Steve's Mandolin playing won "Best String Instrumentalist" at the 2007 Lehigh Valley Music Awards.
He was also lucky enough to win a drawing for three hours of studio time at NSAI supporter Westwires Studios of Bethlehem. He plans to use the studio time to begin recording an album of original songs for a 2007 release.
SHERRI MULLEN:

Sherri continues to rack up awards. She has just won the 2006 CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA BEST ACOUSTIC ACT AWARD sponsored by Harrisburg Online, Central PA's Entertainment Guide. Appalachian Brewing Company hosted the 2006 Central PA Awards Ceremony on Nov. 16th. The event was packed with musicians from all genres, industry folks and fans of local music. The crowd size was well over 300!!! Awards were handed out by local celebrities. |
RICK HOVERTER:
Rick was the 1st place winner for August's "Song of the Year" competition in the Christian/Gospel category with his song 'Lord Take The Reins'. The contest is international and the "Save the Music " Song of the Year" contest is sponsored by VH1 Music.

BOB McCORMICK:
Bob McCormick's PLUG MY HEART INTO THE JUKEBOX (co-written with Dale Allen) was recently released by Ann Brown on her Constantly Country cd and Deby Kelley on AMI Records. Also on AMI records Donny H released LISTEN (title track to the album) and IT'S STILL LOVE (both co-written with Dale Allen and Bill Flowerree).
JIM CAROLAN:
As of 9/30/06, JIM CAROLAN steps down as co-coordinator of EPA-NSAI leaving Sherri Mullen holding the reigns. During Jim's 3 year tenure as Coordinator, membership/outreach in the area went from 66 songwriters to over 250 spanning the Bethlehem, Harrisburg, and Philadelphia areas. Accomplishments include hosting many songwriter guest workshops with Monty Powell, Anna Wilson, Steve Seskin (Grammy Nominated Writer). Barbara Cloyd's Play for Publisher Workshop with Rusty Gaston (This Music./Formally of Song Garden Music) & Scott Gunter (Universal Music Publishing) A Producer Workshops with Grammy Nominated Producer David Ivory, Benefit EPA-NSAI Shows with Platinum Selling writer Jim Femino, Emmy Winner Skip Deneberg, Range Records/Sony Artist Suzanne Gorman and BME Staff Writer Neil Herman. A Christian Workshop and Concert with Jeff & Becky Pearson. Our most attended workshops of all where Bob Dellaposta's Learn to Be Your Own Publisher Workshop. Watching a few writers come to a local NSAI Meeting and then go to Nashville, get the bug, study like crazy at home, then make the move to music city and have success! Seeing a new writer's face when they figure out that they have found their home at an NSAI Meeting! Watching the progress of so many writer go from "I think I want to write songs" to "I AM A SONGWRITER!"
CAROL LESTER:
EPA-NSAI member CAROL LESTER recently received an award from UNISONG's 10th Annual International Songwriting Contest, where her song "Feed The Love Starve The War" was a UNISONG Top 20 Finalist Winner in the Social and Political Category. Carol also received an ASCAPLUS AWARD in their Jazz & Popular Division.
SHERRI MULLEN:
Regional Workshop Coordinator of EPA-NSAI...This singer/songwriter was awarded an ASCAP PLUS Award for 2006 (her 3rd year receiving this award), recently signed a management deal with Razing Kane Entertainment in Philadelphia, PA, and is in the studio making her 3rd full length album. As if that is not enough, she is following in her "Adopt-A-Shop Pro" Bob Dellaposta's footsteps as she runs both and ASCAP and BMI publishing company (www.RDSDPublishing.com) with her efforts focused internationally in film/tv and artist placement! She attributes her recent success in her publishing to the "Be Your Own Publisher" workshops instructed by Bob Dellaposta and held by EPA-NSAI in 2005-2006 season.
MIKE MCLAUGHLIN:
Member Mike McLaughlin's latest single "Stepfather of the Bride" is on sale at CDBaby.com and available for download on iTunes! This is a tune that Mike wrote and debuted for his step-daughter on her wedding day during the father/daughter dance. Since then it has appeared in hundreds of weddings all across the US and Canada!
