THE BALLAD OF RONNIE & TRUDY
(Geoffrey Frederick Lowe Copyright ©2007)

Ronnie’s in trouble with the siren squad
He stole a car when he lost his job
He didn’t tell Trudy or her angry dad
The promised car was all he had
Now Ronnie is a big disappointment to his family
The day he told them where to go
He tore down a traffic light and stuck it in the cemetery

(CHORUS)

They talk about the drugs he’s on
He’s at the center of the gossip all day long
They wonder where he gets it from
He’s like a trapped animal living down on the farm
He wants out out I heard him say
A living death death's never far away

Trudy writes a letter to an old school friend
Oh my God this has to end
Ronnie went and bought a thousand vinegar jars
And took an axe to his guitars
Now he plays hip hop records in the bedroom
He only comes out at night
It’s not like him to be boarding up the skylight

(REPEAT CHORUS)

When the thumbs screws draw the blood
Ronnie takes to shouting the pub
Laughing swearing dancing staring

(REPEAT CHORUS)

When the pressure takes its toll
Ronnie reaches way inside his soul
And when his fire is down on coal
He burns a pickled piece of Rock & Roll
When Trudy’s upset deep in tears
Ronnie gently whispers in her ear:

“Trudy, it’s genetically inherited”
It’s genetically inherited

(REPEAT CHORUS)

I wonder too!
