HOLE IN THE WALL
(B. Ellison Copyright ©2006)
Stick a nail in the wall
You pull it out, the hole's still there
Cover it up, fill it in, but it's still there
Try and pretend or deny
But no matter how hard you try
It's there
Still there
It happened many years ago
But It's still there
You hear it echo in the night
And you know it's there
How could it still hurt inside
After all the tears you cried?
It's just a HOLE IN THE WALL
I was afraid, I didn't fight
But there's no way it was right
Where was truth? Where was help?
Where was God?
Though somehow I survive
I'm not really alive
I'm just this HOLE IN THE WALL
It's the dirty little secret
That never goes away
The scar is all healed over
But I see it every day
I want to leave it far behind
And no longer be defined
By this hole somebody hammered
In my heart
I was afraid, I couldn't fight
But there's no way it was right
Where was the truth?
Where was help?
Where were You, God?
Though somehow I survive
I'm not really alive
I'm still the HOLE IN THE WALL
Stick a nail in the wall
Pull it out, the hole's still there
Cover it up, fill it in, but it's still there
