TEARS OF A NATION
(Sherri Mullen Copyright ©September 11, 2001)

As the sun shone over the mountain
People screamed as the planes went down
Death it struck without a warning
The towers crumbled to the ground

As we fought the fear that gripped us
From the horrors we endured
Hatred came with swift destruction
And we prayed there'd be no more

(CHORUS)

This will change us - nevermore will we be the same
No more illusions - as the tears of a nation fell like rain

As we watched our stomach's sickened
What we saw we can't explain
Still the horror wouldn't leave us
Till we all could feel the pain

So we watched with breathless wonder
At the hell that came today
As I shook - my son was crying
Mommy I am so afraid

(REPEAT CHORUS)

Help me to forget what I saw today . . .

As we heal, life seems more precious
Now we know we're not immune
From the madness and the hatred
That lives inside of me and you

As we bravely face tomorrow
United we must make a stand
Will we take the lives of others
To protect our homeland

(REPEAT CHORUS)
